Position Overview
The Manager, Employee Relations provides leadership for the organization’s employee relations and employee experience functions and serves as a trusted advisor to HR leadership, HR Business Partners, executives, managers, supervisors, and employees.
This position provides guidance on complex and sensitive employee matters, including workplace concerns, performance management, investigations, corrective action, employee grievances, reasonable accommodations, and employment-related policies. The Manager ensures employee relations practices are consistent, equitable, legally compliant, and aligned with organizational culture.
The position also leads key employee experience initiatives designed to strengthen engagement, retention, performance, and mission. This includes new-hire onboarding and check-ins, stay interviews, employee recognition, performance and development initiatives, and exit interviews.
The successful candidate will be a visible and collaborative HR leader who combines strong employee relations expertise with the ability to analyze workforce trends, coach leaders, resolve sensitive issues, and develop practical solutions that improve the employee experience.

Key Responsibilities:
- Partners with and reports to the Vice President of Human Resources to achieve departmental objectives and maintain a cohesive, responsive, and high-performing HR function
- Leads the organization’s employee relations and employee experience programs, ensuring consistent, timely, and effective delivery of services
- Serves as a trusted advisor to HR Business Partners, executives, directors, managers, supervisors, and employees regarding complex, specialized, and sensitive employee relations topics
- Provides expert guidance on performance management, workplace conduct, employee grievances, corrective action, terminations, reasonable accommodations, and other employment-related matters
- Conducts and/or oversees confidential employee relations investigations involving allegations of misconduct, policy violations, workplace concerns, and employee complaints
- Evaluates investigation findings and provides sound, objective recommendations consistent with organizational policy, employment law, and best practices
- Coaches and educates leaders, managers, supervisors, and HR team members on employee relations practices, employment policies, performance management, workplace conduct, and effective approaches to resolving employee concerns
- Ensures consistent application of organizational policies, procedures, and employee relations practices across departments
- Reviews and recommends enhancements to HR policies, procedures, and practices based on organizational needs, regulatory requirements, workforce trends, and industry best practices
- Oversees the organization’s exit interview process and analyzes turnover trends by key positions, departments, divisions, and other organizational segments
- Conducts research and analysis related to HR policies, employment practices, employee relations issues, workforce trends, and organizational performance indicators
- Maintains current knowledge of human resources trends, employee relations best practices, employment law, regulatory requirements, and emerging HR technologies
- Ensures HR practices remain aligned with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as applicable healthcare regulatory and accreditation standards
- Develops and/or facilitates learning and development initiatives related to employee relations, leadership effectiveness, performance management, workplace conduct, and other areas of responsibility
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field required
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is desirable
- Healthcare or acute-care hospital Employee Relations experience required
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive human resources relations experience with significant expertise in investigations, performance management, and HR policy/compliance administration
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Knowledge of HIPAA and TJC core standards affecting employee relations
- Demonstrated experience advising leaders and managers on complex employee relations matters and sensitive workplace issues
