Location:
Opportunity:
• Supervises the Histology section, overseeing daily operations and staff performance
• Oversees the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination
• Performs and coordinates special stains as requested by pathologists
• Conducts gross description and submission of biopsy specimens for processing
• Ensures compliance with laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards
• Manages inventory and maintains adequate supplies for the Histology department
• Collaborates with pathologists and other laboratory professionals to optimize workflow
• Implements and maintains standard operating procedures for the Histology section
• Trains and mentors new staff members in histological techniques and procedures
• Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Stays current with advancements in histology techniques and technologies
• Ensures timely and accurate reporting of histological findings
Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent required; Junior College/Technical School required
• Histotechnician Registration required (HT or HTL certification from ASCP)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in all phases of Histology required
• Prior supervisory experience preferred
• Proficiency in various histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining
• Knowledge of laboratory information systems and quality management principles
• Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP)
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively
