Opportunity:

• Reports to Chief Quality and Data Analytics Officer
• Administers the risk management activities in both the inpatient and outpatient settings for two facilities (ADC 90 & 25) on a day-to-day basis
• Conducts Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and coordinates safety event reviews and investigations
• Works closely with and is supported by three additional Risk Managers in the coordination of all insurance concerns, managing claims against the facilities, and interfacing with defense legal counsel as necessary
• Establishes and implements corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences
• Manages and analyzes risk management data
• Conducts risk management educational programs, complying with risk management-related standards by the Joint Commission and other accrediting and regulatory agencies
• Participates in facility-wide systems for risk identification, investigation, and reduction involving incident reports and medical record review in order to assess, prevent and mitigate financial risk to the organization
• Maintains a network of informational sources and experts; performs risk surveys and inspects patient care areas; reviews facility to assess loss potential
• Recommends appropriate revisions to new or existing policies and procedures to reduce the frequency of future occurrences; recommends ways to minimize risks through system changes; reviews and revises facility policies as appropriate to maintain adherence to current standards and requirements
• Reports events and sentinel events to the appropriate parties
• Provides feedback to directors at all levels in the effort to eliminate risks; assists clinical chairs and department heads in designing risk management programs
• Recommends appropriate revisions to new or existing policies and procedures
• Serves as hospital liaison with Corporate Insurance and Risk Management Services team regarding actual and potential claims

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
• RN or other Clinical/Hospital background to provide for an appropriate investigation of clinical events
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or must be obtained at the point of eligibility
• 3-5 years of medical risk management, insurance, or legal experience in an acute care environment
• Experience with various software (e.g., EPIC, MediTech, MIDAS, Clearsight)
• Strong understanding of hospital and patient care operations, Public Health Code regulations, Joint Commission standards, FDA, and OSHA regulations
• Requires computer proficiency and capacity to analyze data and formulate meaningful information
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of hospital staff
