150+ bed, TJC Accredited, acute care teaching hospital

• Reports to a highly supportive Director of Quality
• Provides guidance and consultation in the development, planning, and coordination of infection control
• Conducts ongoing surveillance investigation and follow up of infections through review of admission diagnoses, microbiology culture results, isolation orders, patient records, consultation requests, and post-discharge surveillance
• Incorporates new scientific findings in infection control into clinical practice; maintains an awareness of new developments in infection control and existing guidelines (CDC) and (OSHA) laws
• Ensures rigorous infection control standards that meet TJC, CMS, Local Health Department, FDA, and CDC requirements
• Maintains active involvement in issues relating to cost containment
• Participates in performance improvement and risk management programs utilizing information to further enhance the quality of patient care as it relates to infection control
• Acts as the infection control liaison for all hospital departments, medical services, and Infection Control Committee, hospital administration, and the community
• Consults with hospital departments in regard to short and long-range infection control objectives
• Conducts epidemic investigations, as required, according to hospital, county, state, and federal public health and maintains records of such investigations
• Submits timely reports to the Infection Control Committee, Patient Safety Committee, Critical Care Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, and other committees/departments as requested
• Actively participates in formulating nursing and hospital policies and procedures in the area of infection control
• Maintains records of statistical information concerning nosocomial infections including site, indications of infections, infectious organisms, and related problems
• Coordinates implementation and maintenance of infection control accrediting and licensing standards, providing documented evidence of compliance through reporting requirements
• Ensures multidisciplinary implementation of continuous quality improvement and educational programs which foster actions, beliefs, and responsibility for infection control in each member of the medical center team
• Provides subject matter expertise in Infection Prevention and Control on findings, recommendations, and policies with appropriate dissemination
• Reports required information to local, state, and federal agencies in an accurate and timely manner
• Educates employees and providers about infection control and contributes to staff training programs in regards to employee orientations and annual competencies


• Bachelor’s degree required
• RN, MT(ASCP), or MPH
• CIC preferred
• Minimum of three years directly related experience in an Infection Prevention and Control Department program
• Demonstrated expertise in TJC, CMS, and NHSN reporting
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of hospital staff
